Overview

Objective:

Select a film director and five of their films and design a film festival. 

Approach:

The director I selected for this project was David Fincher, who is known for his stylish movies. The thread that I found within his movies is the confused characters who face the dangers of bizarre yet compulsive areas of life, are searching for an unknown truth. The visual system I developed has three elements: crime evidence, twisted bodies, and glitches. I used this combination to create a set of deliverables to convey the core of the theme.

Brochure design

The brochure was designed to share more information of this film festival, including the biography of David Fincher, filmography, and details of each film. Focus was placed on creating a cohesive style of glitched image with a hint of the story. Clear hierarchy, big handwriting tittle allow for easy digestion of information.

Poster design

The posters were designed to aim to capture the visual aesthetic and mood of the film festival. With blood stained quote on dark background, twisted body/face glitching in red and blue hue, and case files merged with the visual, audience can get glimpses into the plot, setting, and tone of the film festival.

Ticket design

To interact with the audience was one of my goals of this project. The audience can't just simply get the information from the ticket, instead, they need to investigate by themselves. At the first glimpse, the audience can only see glitched visual, but when they spread out the five layers of the ticket, rotate and reorganize the layers, the information will be revealed.

Schedule design

The schedule was designed to be interactive as well. The audience need to figure out how to solve this puzzle. By taking out the puzzle pieces, discover the hint under the pieces, flip and complete the puzzle, the truth will be revealed.

Soundtrack design

Soundtrack was designed as an evidence tube, to follow the whole investigation theme of the film festival.
